A Blog Post Need not to be very long
Alas! Another blogging tip. It has been a while since I’ve written something about how to earn free lindens from blogging and now that I’m back, I’ve got no excuse not to write one.
Internet readers are lazy
If there’s something you should know when you make a blog post and you want people to read it, be aware that even if in their life outside the internet they are not lazy, everyone who’s looking information on the internet is getting lazy. You see, the reason why you searched Live or Google or Yahoo! is because you want fast, quick and easily readable information that you’ll need.
To make it short, a long post will only get the reader to skim on it and not read it all. Making it short and brief will not be boring and gives the right amount of information someone out there will need.
If you liked this post, buy me a coffee. (Suggested: 3$ for a Caffè Mocha or 6$ if ever I have a date.) If you enjoyed this post, make sure you subscribe to my RSS feed!

I’m studying Graphical & Digital Media, all about websites/photoshop/printing/…
And i do also know, since i learn how to analyse and judge websites. That ppl are indeed lazy.
People usually scan, they do not read text. They just look for something in particular, and if they don’t find it, they just go away.
like chino says, People usually use a search engine and find their things there.
Concerning about webtexts :
- Reading text on a pc/laptop, is 25% slower than paper/books.
- Visitors scans text, not read them.
- Visitors do not have patience. (they want to be fast, always in a hurry)
- The Internet is an active media
So its always nicer to have a shorter, clearer, to-the-point text. Instead of whole stories, that most likely not alot of ppl will read…
Am I wrong to say that you catch people’s attention better when larger images are in the text? But come to think of it then the text shifts and the whole post appears larger. Any idea?
The most useful tip I ever got about blogs is that you should headline the single most important fact. If people read that they know what it is about. If they truly are interested they’ll read the rest.
That is why a lot of blog do have that “read more” link inside them for those who are interested to read more about the article
You are right and wrong. Being brief is alright if the message contained in the post packs a punch. On the other hand, if your subject matter is complicated, you may have to be elaborate and this is when writing skills to hold the attention of the reader becomes very important.
Your blogs are succinct and you have a loyal following so you need not worry for the moment. If you want to grow, you need to post more and on subjects that will get more readers.
All the best.

Yes chino mayB U should post something that people will argue over 4 days or something U have learned in SL or out of SL 4 that matter.
I am not talking about tutorials or anything there R other sites 4 that.
MayB some1 on this blog can come up with something.
Yeah, Chino… i agree with Prince.
If you post a good subject here for discussion, it would be great all of us can give our opinion about that… try us.
Unless the topic is relevant to their interests. Also if you really want people to read your post, it’s better if you write it like they do on the newspapers, relevant headline, interesting introductury first paragraph and etc.
It does work o_o.
I have that bad habit of not reading everything on websites. I feel I can get the jist of something by skimming through it. I dont know if it is that im lazy, or if I have ADD lol.
There is so much content to read in general, it seems like you would be missing out on so many other things.
Those of us that “never read directions” are all in the group of wanting things faster, including the point. So my impatience would definitely support this theory.
again, what i have written before, is for websites. Not blogs or any other online thing.
Its generally known, that ppl are just scanning text, not reading them. Ofcourse on a blog, thats another thing. Blogs are meant to have “some decent amount of text”. its after all stories or articles that needs to be discussed about.
But in generally about websites, my previous post is quite correct
Well i say if any1 doesn`t like 2 read,then don`t visit a blog.Cause that`s what it`s all about right!
People read blogs because it’s interesting for them, yeah websites is another thing. But when you go to a blog, it’s because it’s related to what you’re looking for or you know the author/owner, or were linked to it, something like that.
Yes! People are definetly lazy : ) That post perfectly sum’ed it all up.
When it comes down to it, a point only needs to be made. Then your blog readers are there to elaborate and even argue over any given topic.
That is exactly how this blog works, and we all have been given the tools to create our own blogs learning from this example.
I have yet to develop a following, but it all starts with creating your own blog which is the first step many of us have taken thanks to these contests.

One of the first things we are taught is to summarize all the information in the beginning of the article as you said, because internet readers are lazy. They want to know if the article is worth them reading without having to read the whole thing, because of shortening attention spans as well as sense of instant gratification.
The average reader who does not find information within the first paragraph of the article and even the title to contain any information they actually care about, they will loose interest and navigate away.
So by summarizing the article within the first sentence they may and will find something that interests them, and continue reading a longer post. Though this only really works if you are blogging about something relevant and semi news worth, not very pratcial for a personal blog.
I’m guilty of being one of those notoriously lazy internet readers, and for someone who spends a good 60% of their time conducting research on databases/websites/infoblogs…i can’t say it’s a very practical flaw to have. But I do think that it’s always helpful for both the blogger/writer and the reader if the title is VERY clear on what the article is about and if the first paragraph contains enough information to tell if what you’re reading is going to be worth your while. One of my professors, when speaking about presentations or writing online, summed up what format an informational blog should look like:
paragraph 1- tell them what you’re going to tell them.
main body: tell them
last paragraph: tell them what you just told them.
et voila.
