Giving is better than receiving

How can someone imagine that a virtual world a year ago that only has 170,000 residents now has a total of 9,814,000 residents or in a more common term, registered users world-wide. With that statistic alone, Second life is one big money maker online.

free

In this huge virtual world, business owners and marketers know that giving something to the residents is the most effective way of marketing.

Everyone loves freebies

I know you love freebies. I love them too. I give free linden dollars, companies give free lindens through this site and of course just almost everywhere in-world. My point is, if you want to get people to know your product or your service, give them something for free. A newbie or new born resident will always look for the free stuff unless they have their credit cards ready to purchase those linden dollars from Second Life directly. Well, we all know that only a few use their credit card so the freebies are still the most effective way of marketing.

What are those freebies

You can give anything for free. Clothes, accessories, hair, skins, shapes, costumes, cars, bikes, furnitures and the list goes on. You can give free linden dollars as well through camping or when they stay at your sim. Another way to give is through contests. (yeah, my contests are all marketing strategies. ]:) )

Keep em’ coming back for more

What most companies forget is to update their freebies. Better yet, just give something new. It’s also my mistake why sometimes, my traffic goes low and low traffic always translates to low income. So stop wondering why I update my blog everyday. The point is, you have to get those people who visited you once to come back. They are your potential customers and your customers.

Build a good product or service

Content will always be the key. Every marketing strategy will fail if you don’t have good content. Same goes for websites, blogs and Islands. If your products or services are no good or has poor quality, don’t expect them to return. Always give them a good impression.

Yeah those freebie textures are by the ton, and take forever to weed through, but its fun! :)

I have started building more often, and it can be a challenge to be both creative and patient when you have so much to dig through, but you cannot beat all the choices when they are free.

Don’t we all? :)

Money is great incentive. But there is a lot of fun in the freebies since it gives a lot of publicity to things we may not otherwise know exist.

And that actually helps with creativity, which I otherwise wouldn’t have had a chance to build up, had I not been given the freebies with which to build ideas from!

I often check the freebie land now, just to have an idea of what is currently out there. In most cases its nothing I want to bother burying in my inventory, but more so to see what I haven’t yet seen. Even if its a basic version of something nicer out there. Finding that little unique item that you can gets some life out of is the greatest part. Not everyone bothers to dig deep, and you can get really deep in some of these freebie areas.

Just like its a good idea to tip those that hold events, its also a good idea to greet the newbie on the sandbox, and hand him/her a freebie. Let them in on the fun of giving things and they will pay ir forward. :)

Everyone likes cold hard cash, but there are some great freebies that are just cool to hand over to someone who will appreciate it still. Its new to them, and they will feel more accepted. Its a kind gesture.

If there are great freebies, they would have been taken by resident long ago themselves. Resident are not immune to them

They are all great when your speaking to a newbie….the point is you dug through them, found a cool item, passed it along, made them happy! :)

Use your creativity, with a little time you can make anything. Give it away, and get some feedback. My first creation was well recieved, and I just wanted to make a personal gift ;)
As another part of the blog says, maybe you can start a business and bring your ideas to life!

Another important thing is to check out places related to your favorite activities and just seeing all the freebies there. Anything from formula one racing, to simply riding a bicycle. There is so much to experience its great. And while is there are tons of custom stuff to purchase, they are giving away great stuff there too for you to take with you if you like.
Look for “HUNTS”
I am looking through an icicle hunt right now, and its all cool freebies!

Dancing clubs often offer outfits and free avatars as well. They want to attract attention and keep people coming back, so check out the hopping clubs like PIER. They almost always have something going on and freebies galore.

It is certainly amazing how quickly Second Life has grown.. and I think in the future real-life marketing companies will be looking further and further into it as a potential to make money and advertise. I also bet teachers and researchers will continue to use it more and more.. I always return to stores that have freebies lol ^_^ Especially the really nice ones, then you can grab their card and they will send you updates. It’s very helpful : )
