Less profit on Google ad and more money from Second Life
I always thought that the dollars I get from running those Google Ads will always be bigger than what I get from Second Life. Now, it seems that I only earned 10$ from google this past week or to be exact, 7 days. First Opinion Panel’s payment to me is even twice bigger than that.
12,000L$ from FOP vs 10$ from Google
I earn at least 12,000L$ per week from First Opinions Panel or 50$ in USD while in Google Ads, from 30$ per week to now 10$ in a week. Now that is not competition for Google but with the recent changes on how the Google Ads appear, do you think Adsense publishers like me will still keep those Google Ads if they’re not performing well?
For me, only time will tell. If the earnings from the Google Ads still drop down, then I might just give the space to a better advertiser with better pay.

Is it not possible to give room for more than one advertiser? Or is there some sort of exclusive rights?
Chino will be happy if he has more advertiser on his site, if the price is right. After all, he will the the only laughing to the bank
I have always thought that with a site dedicated to Second Life-related themes, you’d have more luck with in-world advertisers than you would with public Google ads. Have you tried getting in-world sponsorship for this blog? If so, how did that go?
I have sponsorhips in-world like the banner on the upper right of this world. That’s for 12,000L$ per month. Plus the recent reviews sponsored by in-world businesses.
Obviously, my earnings in-world is bigger. The Google Ads are just supplements and to maximize the money I can make from this blog.
I recently bought a copy of Need For Speed: Prostreet from Amazon.com which is paid through my paypal account and obviously, my paypal account is where the converted lindens go to.
It is good that you could earn a lot from the second life game. In comparsion, I pale. Only after 4 months I started second life did I earn enough to meet the minimum amount to transfer money in my paypal account to my real life bank account without incurring a fees (And that will be 200 SGD, about 140 us dollars).
With Google being the monster engine that it is, and Second Life gaining speed, it seems to me like a great idea. I would wonder if advertising is directed towards a specific audience based on what the customers are using the engine for….anything related to gaming, fps, socializing, etc.
Hey chino, it just goes to so that your popularity among the second life world has risen until that they come to you to advertise. You can now have the power to set your own fees and not depending on the patehic rates that google give its users. (Imagine give you a $100 cheque when they have earn $10,000 for your site adverstiments).
How about set up your own second life advertisment network? I know of a few that has existed already but the room is still open. Do give it a thought
Google is targeting “make money blogs” specially those that sells text links and do paid reviews because, according to them, it undermines the relevancy of their search. Those “slapped” got a massive decrease in pagerank and we know that advertisers use pagerank to determine the value of a site or blog.
Some conceded defeat to google but some like John Chow continues to defy the mighty God of the internet. lol
Oh, Google and Second Life? I think they are working together somehow. lol
I think that they are more afraid of losing adversting revenues to other party. I think that advertsing revenues are the main thing that keeps google alive and profitable. Without, they would have not be so generous with their free service and they would have to change their business model drastically to survive
It seems that anything that could be something, google is gobbling up. What would they change the name to….”Google Life”
Or googlesoft, maybe?
Maybe I should create my character as StormGoogle in anticipation of the inevitable.
You know that Google could just gobble up one of second life competitors instead or create their own and bring second life to a early death.
Maybe I am going to petition for the surname “google” to exist in second life. Like how all with the surname “linden” is related to the linden royal family
I’m surprised with all this talk about advertising, why surnames aren’t already paid for by all the big guns, so to speak. They could have their names out there so that everyone who reads a name gets a hidden ad…subliminal advertising?
Maybe because they do not deemed them as significant I think. Anyway, they could just request linden labs to give them exclusive right to watever surname they want and give them to staff who managed the presence of their company in second life. That saves some money as all the adverstiment is done by the employees and the companies do not have to pay some random outsider. Smart, isn’t it?
Seems like untapped territory to me….lets see if our comments get read by a marketing guy who need a fresh idea.
Hopefully I wished. But I guess the guy must convice his company to shell out a few thousand to buy some land and a hundreds of dollar to maintain the lands. A lot of comapanies do so but only a few are rather active in second life
Takes a good salesperson, and there are plenty of them on SL. I work for on in STA….which is a virtual travel ageny. You can book real travel through SL. Its pretty interestin stuff.
How is the payment mode like? Do you accepts lindens? DO you accept international customers? I have a lot of burning question to ask
What we would typically do, is set you up to speak with a travel agent. In particular I would suggest a few if you met me in STA. There is almost always someone there to greet you aside from me, so they would either take you to an agent that is there, or advise one to leave a message with details about the destination in mind, and options.
I see. So, it is just a normal travel agent office, just that it is vitrual. I though that the agency was a pure secondlife startup
Its tough to get the new guys to not only grasp Second Life, but to realize the whole idea of the island. But the key target is the college aged people who join the game. They grasp the game quickly, as it it much controlled like any other game, and then they can seekout the rest of the area and actually see the travel agency office.
Now there are more events too which any business needs to do to attract the most attention to an island IMO.
Problem is that the college demographic you have mentioned od not have the most important thing. That is cold hard cash. Even in Second life, you need $$$. That is reality
I should get a prize for most replied post. lol
Maybe you should. If chino does not want to give you a prize, contact me in-world. I think I can afford a small token
I guess I should witch over to what you’re doing, too. Google ads are getting more and more worthless. I mean, if I don’t even want to click on the ads, who’s to say someone else will? And I’ll click on anything. Nice post.
Guess this why these days I am putting my blogging dreams on the shelves, at least for now
