Loving the Google PageRank gift
The world of blogging or should I say, professional blogging, was shaken this week by Google’s PageRank update. Some bloggers were slapped and received a drop on their PageRank including Carl, John – who is still quite bitter with the slap, Darren and Abe while the rest of the world receives a boost. A few sites that now has a higher PR are SLTopSites, Kabalyero and Torley – who has a new post regarding CSI: NY in Second Life.
Guaranteed spot?
If you’re a blogger whose blog gets 50% of traffic from Google’s search engine, a boost on the PageRank will always be sweet. Chino Yray dot com now has a PageRank of 4 from the previous PR1. I believe this will somehow secure my spot on some keywords on Google’s Search Engine Result Page or SERP.
What’s a PageRank anyway
PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at considerably more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; for example, it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves “important” weigh more heavily and help to make other pages “important.” Using these and other factors, Google provides its views on pages’ relative importance.
Another advantage of having a PR4 from Google is that, this will boost my income from different advertisers but I don’t plan to change my rates yet. I’m still earning more than what I need but hey! higher pay will always be good. I guess I’ll just update my Advertise here page when I have something in my mind.

[...] Check it out! While looking through the blogosphere we stumbled on an interesting post today. Here’s a quick excerpt [...]
Hindi ko napansin ang update ng Google PR. Got a jumped from PR 0 to PR 3.
“However you want to put it, a number of blogs were penalised with a drop in PageRank, apparently because they were… apparently, selling text links.”
Selling text links are bad?
I guess they are the illegitimate method of boosting traffic. Some sites I’ve been to have text links everywhere, it’s really annoying.
It should also be considered along the lines of paying for votes. You are buying your way to prestige, rather than earning it.
I also appreciate how annoying links can be all over the place. For one, they throw off searches, as words in the advertising link are somehow caught in the search, thereby directing you to a page you do not even need to be viewing. Secondly, they are just not pleasing to the eye and far too distracting. So, while you may get more page hits, an owner of such a space really does not get any point across. If anything, it could detract.
[...] this blog now has a Google PageRank of 4 (PR4), tonight, there will be 6 Top Commentators. They are: Carizz Cruzem [...]
i guess the max PR is 10….hope u get it
Enjoy

On a greedy devil note, if Chino gets that high, think of all the competing commentators.
Lol if the PageRank was below that there wouldn’t be any blog contest.
I am a bit confused with the comment, as the PR of ChinoRay.Com was 4, and Adi presented the highest as being 10. So being below 10 and there is still a contest… Perhaps I am looking into it too deeply. My brain is a bit of mush right now.
I meant that if the PageRank was below the top 10, as in below 1, then there wouldn’t be much incentive for Chino to have so many contests.
Oh… I think I am grasping it, but at the same time… falling short. Again, my brain is loaded down.
And one might say that the contests are more for the advertising and information, rather than the rank, which puts a value upon his advertising and information. I mean, he was doing this before the PR, if I recall correctly, and he has only added contests since the PR. It is not a new idea.
Just a play on concepts.
He had contests before, but just not as often as right now, after his blog became more and more popular.
Well, more money to give out with more traffic, I suppose. Instead of hoarding it, he puts it right back to gain more traffic.
I wonder how much Google pays blogs for advertisements. It must be a pretty good amount for a popular blog such as this one. Who knows, with multiple advertisers you might even make a few hundred a month.
One can only speculate, as Google is an interesting company. I recall reading about them in TIME magazine, and a Google employee is actually required to use one work day to focus on a personal project or the like. There are also toys everywhere (at least that is what was presented in the pictures).
I’m curious how long it takes to move farther up this scale? I even noticed a comment of mine when I searched on google. Thats was cool to see on the top of the google search
Maybe because you typed “StormShadow Maertens” on the search bar?
Congratulations, Chino.
Hope you get in the top ranking soon again and stay there Chino:-)

Another suggestion regarding what gift to offer, is to present something original. By this I mean a product or service which has not been offered in a giveaway before (if possible) or at least that is not being offered by another marketer in the same event. So I would recommend to have a look at the other gifts already approved before deciding on your own gift.
Great job with this blog!
