Organized Religion and their church

Being an Atheist, it doesn’t mean that I won’t be interested in looking at churches. Earlier, Samantha and I was talking about religion so while we’re at it, I searched Second Life for churches and here’s one of the best that I found.

Cardenale by Cardinal Sin

No, it’s impossible that he’s Jaime "Cardinal" Sin but I am very sure that the owner of the SL church knows him.

Cathedral

Anyway, I did not visit the church because I want to pray or something, I wanted to know if they can imitate the architecture of the real life churches. Cathedrals are also popular because of their magnificent architectural design and in Second Life, the churches are not as great as their real counterpart but they’re still worth the visit.

Wall Paintings

The paintings on the walls are also great. The guy really did a good research on this one. If you’ll also look at the cross and the windows, wow! they are really impressive.

If you liked this post, buy me a coffee. (Suggested: 3$ for a Caffè Mocha or 6$ if ever I have a date.)

In RL, I go to cathedrals when I need to have some quiet time for myself. I specially like the echo sound of the birds chirping inside the church.

That does sound beautiful. I should really stop being lazy and at least visit my campus’s church-auditorium. It has a lovely (and gigantic) organ in the back that takes one’s breath away. I think it’s also important to note that just because you may not believe in the values that are associated with something doesn’t mean you cannot appreciate the work an effort that went into that. I have my own faith, and I still greatly appreciate the creations of such systems like the Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, and Hinduism.

You should look around the sim entitled Narnia. The church/castle is wonderful, and much of the “architecture” resembles the movie set. Avatars resemble characters from the movie as well. Church services are held throughout the sim regularly, and the buildings hold many surprises. There is much work in progress, since the sim just got new management, however you might enjoy your visit.

Thanks for seeing us a place with such great architecture in second life. I have visited the place and I recommend residents to visit the place even if they are not christian. I bet they marvel at the wonderful architecture that the church owner have painstakingly built

It is a great SIM. The details is incredible, and the lag is low. The framerate was running 54fps for me.

I am not a church go-er either….well since I was a kid, but its definitely got the feeling the main hall. I didn’t expect the shop to the right, but that brought me back to reality…or second life reality ;)

After looking around a bit more, I discovered the confessional. Its off to the left as you walk in. I wonder if anyone actually uses this as a real one? ;)

Maybe the way we comment here can be considered a sin?

I guess the sim does not have full of visitors, that is why it is not laggy at all.

That is a part I like about the place. Peace and quiet. Imagine if it was a place full of tourist. It would just spoil the tranquility of the place.

All the more like a real church. Peace and quiet for the most part..when a service isn’t going on. The feeling of holy ground….It was there until I walked to the edge and realized the ground was much further down ;)

I would take a look at this church, it looks old really magnificent, and since it’s modeled to look like an old church, my blood is screaming to take a look :D

Just don’t walk through the doors if your a vampire….you might burst into flame :)
That would be an interestin twist in SL…..walk through the doors, burst into flame, and use the death animation to fall tot he ground and lie there till someone notices.. heh

Producing isn’t my forte, but it sounds like a good idea for an SL clip ;)
Vampire’s in SL would get a kick out of it….might even make a good attraction!

I know when I think Second Life, I don’t necessarily think belief systems and their monuments. They are not a ‘hot commodity’, at least by themselves. However, if you search around medieval or fantasy sims with castles, sometimes you find some nice niches of faith. Also, wedding chapels can have quite grand appearances, too.

(Yes, I’m back. I had a rough time and a vacation, and I hope people respect that.)

I have found a few buddhist temple and shinto temples around in the various sims. They do look great although architecturally, they are not as maginificant as the church (manybe due to their belief). I am looking for a mosque though. Anyone can point me to one?

Wow. That’s simply amazing. I wish I had the time or the ability to do something like that. All I can accomplish is a stick man on paper, let alone a beautiful church in SL. Great find.

That is really fascinating, the stained glass has great detailing. I am beginning to ‘get’ second life it think.

Wow. A beatiful catheral with such details. The builder behind this must have taken a lot of time and effort to do so. Thumbs up to him!

I’ve been into some muslim SL churches, and walked around some creepy ones, the people attending there told me that they use to have ceremonies, pray and all that stuff. I was like.. -what? for real?

So, that’s why I’m never in the mood to check out churches that might look like hosts of weird cults.

Wow, the architecture is beautiful! I especially love the way the light comes in through the windows and illuminates the pews The second picture reminds me of this really gorgeous old monastery I saw in Spain. The tapestry is really familiar…is that a famous painting or something?

This is beautiful! I’m definitely going to check these churches out.. I’ve been exploring around SL looking just at the architecture too, especially gothic looking churches. Some of the more common places seem to be very medieval styled-buildings and even some castles. The work this guy did here though looks fantastic.
